Ko Phi Phi

We left Phuket and The Club the day after hiring the motorbikes and caught a taxi to the pier to catch the ferry to Phi Phi island.

We were a bit late setting off (because of Stevie taking ages to get ready!) and arrived at the pier half an hour after the ferry was supposed to leave. As there is only 1 ferry a day going over to Ko Phi Phi this could have been a bit of a problem. However, in true Thai style, the ferry was not running according to time and was still there so we managed to get on and were on our way - that was a stroke of luck…

The ferry ride was strange as there were so many western people. I guess I had got used to hardly seeing any other western people on my trip so far so it was a bit weird to be surrounded by loads again. The ferry took about 2 hours but soon we could see both Ko Phi Phi Don (the island where you stay) and Ko Phi Phi Li (the island where The Beach was filmed).

We walked down the pier and were instantly met by lots of Thais offering accommodation, taxis etc etc. The Thais are all really friendly though and even their hard sell doesn’t seem pushy so it cool – the Thais are all really chilled out friendly people so you don’t feel hassled at all. Plus, if you ever want a taxi, hotel, tuk tuk etc you dont have to look very far…

We negotiated a deal and headed (only about 30 yards to the Phi Phi Inn). Mark and Joe’s room has a sea view – just! You can see the sea through a 30cm gap between 2 buildings from their balcony! However, Stevie and I have got a wicked view from our balcony – check out the video…

We went for a walk around the island (absolutely beautiful) and saw some areas which were pretty badly hit from the Tsuami. Most of the island has been rebuilt and is a really good standard. There are a couple of shop fronts and stuff that haven’t been repaired at all so its easy to get an understanding of what it must have been like.
