There have been a few shark attacks in Australia since I have been here.

When I was in Perth there was a shark attack in Esperance and a 15 year old boy got his leg bitten off by a great white! He was only 40m off the coast!! Esperance is pretty far south of Perth but I had recently been to Prevelly which isn't too far away from there and had been swimming in the sea there every day!

Then when I was back in Perth they showed video footage on the news of a whale carcass that was a few metres off the coast and was about to was up on the beach. Where it washed up was about 20ks north of Scarborough (which is where I was staying). As they filmed the whale carcass just off the shore they noticed a great white shark chomping on the side of it and caught it all on video! I had been in the sea everyday at Scarborough swimming and body boading and it was only 20ks south of here...! I guess 20ks isn't far for a great white to swim either!

And now there has been another shark attack in Victoria! They guy is ok but its still pretty bad...

I'm in Sydney now and I thought it was pretty safe around here but I've been doing some research. The closest beach to me is Coogee and I usually go swimming there, now I haven't found any reports of shark attacks here (yet!) but I did find a report about a surfer getting attacked at Bronte last year...

Bit scared to go in now, I reckon I still will though! = )
