Well, it was an interesting way to kick off the trip! Just about to go through security at Heathrow and recieved a text from my parents saying there had been a military coup in Thailand and the tanks had rolled in to Bangkok!
To be honset tho, I was too hungry to worry about this so I went and got some food and sat in front of a screen showing BBC news 24 and found out what was going on. I spoke to some other people from my flight and as there was no advice not to travel, we all got on the plane as planned.
The flight was ok, managed to get quite a bit of sleep, and arrived in Bangkok safe and sound.
Met up with Stevie and Marco and caught the taxi to Khorat (3 hours). As we left Bangkok we saw quite a few tanks and troops gauding the motorways but that is all we have seen of the military coup so far. I think its a lot bigger new back home than it is in Thailand...! = )
Taxi ride was interesting, saw loads of temples and mountains and pick up trucks with about 15 Thais crammed in the back!
Our taxi driver was cool, he couldn't speak much english but we were communicating quite well and having a laugh. Halfway through the journey he pulled a big leaf out of his pocket and put the whole thing in his mouth and started chewing it! Not sure what that was all about!! He offered Mark one too but Mark didn't fancy it...
We are staying in an apartment opposite the shopping mall in Khorat (thats where I am now). Our room is big and has air con and an ensuite bathroom so its not too bad at all. Its costs 500 baht a night which is about 7 pound 50 I think so its pretty cheap between 3.
Had a great meal last night, some really nice Thai food and also tried all the beers, Chang, Singha and Tiger - all good!
Went to another bar where they had a band on (Thai music is bad, very bad, even worse than the music that Rusty plays!!!). Had a ride on a tuk tuk on the way home which was a laugh with 4 of us crammed in the back!
Had a big lay in today, didn't get out of bed until 3pm!!! Think the flight had caught up with us all.
Right, I got to go, going out for some more Thai food now.

Where are you blogging from, internet cafe? Good to hear you're not stirring it up in front of the Thai tanks ... "no surrender..." etc.
Yep internet cafe in the mall in Khorat, its cool, I'm the only 'Farang' (westerner) in here.
Its 40 baht for an hour which is about 60p I think - not bad
